Weekend Worriers

This weekend we had Sarah and Quentin with us, and they were so freaking awesome! We all got so much done!!! Weeding, trimming, sweeping, mudding, puttying, taping, sanding, painting, mowing, garbage...ing...

We started out the morning weeding the planter beds, trimming bushes and trees, pulled out one tree that didn't need to be there, filling and cleaning out the pond, digging the weeds out of the sidewalk, and sweeping up all the walkways. At one point, one of my neighbors came out and said hi, and said it was looking really great, and I mentioned that I just needed to buy a lawn mower and it would look better, and she offered for me to borrow hers! :) So an hour or so later, I borrowed her mower and mowed most of the yard (some of it was super tall and thick so the mower was really chewing on it, and by this point it was getting a lot later in the afternoon too). She was such a sweetheart. I sure appreciate good neighbors. :) I gave it back to her with nearly a full tank of gas as a thank you. :)

On the inside, we got rolling (pun intended) - we souped up the drywall mud and rolled it onto the walls to cover all the fiberglass on the drywall. Two full coats of rolled on mud to really cover it all, and blend in all the seems and other mud that our mud gal had done. (Oh, and we fired her... She was doing a painstakingly good job at a remarkably good price, however, she showed up a day late, then she wouldn't get there till after noon each day, and would work till like 9 or 10 at night... And after 2 days, she was only maybe halfway through what she said she'd finish in one day. So we paid her 25 cents a square foot for what she did, and sent her on her way. Her response to getting fired? "Aw, I figured." Huh... Real professional there... Oh well. She got the hard part done, so we'll take it from here).

Here you can see the difference between where the mud has been rolled on the walls, vs the ceiling which has not yet. This is just the first coat.

Kevin and Quentin focused on getting the French doors sanded, cleaned up, and installed (which included chiseling out new spots for the hinges on the door jams.) They are now in and looking fantastic! Now we just need to finish painting them, and install the trim, and they're going to look SOOO amazing!! Can't wait!!!

After all our hard work, we got some pizza, and took Watson and the kids to Deep Lake and played Bocce Ball. Fantastic end to a really great day filled with hard work!

We took the kids back to their moms on Sunday, and after we got home, Kevin pulled out his new toy (uh, I mean tool) this really cool sander with an attached vacuum so that when you sand the walls, nearly all the dust gets sucked straight into the vacuum! So the rest of the day, Sunday, he sanded down the library while I rolled on the mud in the front bedroom.

Next up! We get to Prime and Paint!!! Yay!!!
